As 2019 comes to an end, it’s a time for career reflection and to think about what went well and what’s next in your career. There are a few areas Angee recommends as you evaluate your year.
The obvious place to start is with your accomplishments. What were your goals and did you achieve them. Are your projects on track? Does your team have the right players for the work that needs to be done?
Then, look at how you are measuring your success. Are you tracking your stretch assignments? Do your programs help the organization achieve the overarching company goals? If you’re in job transition, track the number of connections you’re making and which ones help you expand your network in meaningful ways.
Next think about how you know if the work you are doing matters. You want to put your energy into activities that align with personal, team and organizational goals.
On the practical side, are you keeping up with technology and trends in marketing and communications? With this function moving so quickly, it’s essential to do a real evaluation of where you are ahead of the curve and where you may be falling behind.
And finally, what is your career trajectory? Start your career reflection. Now is the time to think about where you hope to learn and grow, the types of roles you want to move toward, and how to make it happen.
